"This is Captain Mark T Altaker of the U.S.S Exeter, Please respond"
The
image of the huge old space station stayed the same.
"Please respond" the captain said again
"Sir no-one is responding to our message," said a tall thin cadet who was sitting at the conn.
"Thank you Mr. Fargo, I guessed that, but why?"
"All of our equipment is operational, so it must
be the Sub-space disturbance that is surrounding the space station that is interfering with the commutation
circuits"
"Try and cut through it some how," the captain commanded.
"Yes Sir I'm on it."
Before cadet Fargo could try anything the image on the view screen changed.
A huge ball of
green plasma energy was heading towards the ship.
"Shields" shouted the captain. Cadet
Fargo skimmed his hands over the controls in front of him and the shields hummed softly as they came
on-line. The crew watched the burning object as it moved closer to towards them.
"Ten seconds
to impact" said the science officer Lt. Johnston in a reassuring calm voice "All hands brace for impact!"
shouted the captain as he began to hold on to the armrests of his chair.
Lt. Johnston began to
count down but her voice was drowned out by scream of the plasma as it came nearer to the ship.
The noise became so intense that the crew began to cover their ears. The ball of plasma exploded as
it hit the ships shields with a force that shock the whole ship and set most of the crew to the floor.
Then there was silence as all the ships systems began to shut down and the lights flickered
off.
Cadet Forgo picked him self up and looked at the console in front of him. The console
was dead along with the others in the ship.
In the darkness Joseph Fargo moved slowly to where
the captain was laying on the ground.
Sir are you ok?" said Joseph as he helped the captain
to his feet "I'm fine but we need to worry about the ship or we will all be dead, we need the back
up power".
Both men went over the aft science station where they saw the body of Lt. Johnston
on the deck she was Dead.
They had now time for sorrow, as they needed the back up power on
line now! Or they could all have the same fate as poor Lt. Johnston.
The two men left the bridge
of the star ship and made their way the ships hart, main engineering.
It took the two men 30
minutes to make their way through the dead ship; they saw countless dead crewmembers that never left
their posts.
About 20 minutes later they made it to the heart of the ship.
As they got
near they could feel the tempture rise.
They burst in to the engineering room all around them
were fires devouring the controls.
The captain made his way to the emgrancy controls and lighting
power came back on line. The captain then looked over to the other side of the control room and saw a
small panel, which had now been destroyed by the fire. It read "Warp Core breach in 10 minutes"
The
captain then tapped the small panel and said, "All hands evacuate the ship there is a warp core breach
in progress we have 10 minutes god speed to you all Captain Altaker out" The two men made it to the
shuttle bay with three other crewmembers that they had found on the way. The five left the ship in
a shuttlecraft. The shuttle moved away from the ship and joined two other shuttles and nine escape
pods. "My god" said the captain as he looked out of the window and saw the remains of his once proud
Starship.
Then there was a flash of blue as the warp core exploded and the shuttlecraft and escape
pods were pushed along on the shock wave like small boats on a strong tide at sea.
